*waves* Haven't been here for a while, and, um, yeah, won't be here for a <s>long</s> not-so-long time after. Won't be able to visit your journals either. Details are boring, and so.

Thanks for everything! It just sounds, well, a little less permanent. And very *Nsync-ish.

Y'all can still look me up here.
I suppose I should be going "Champagne's on me, everybody!" right now since I passed the UPCAT, and yeah, a large part of me is doing that. *proffers champagne*

But another part of me is thinking about my friends and classmates who didn't get in (I calculate around 120 of them, if the 60+% passing rate is correct), and how tomorrow's going to be like for them. Being surrounded by rejoicing people, people who're complaning because they're not in the course they want to be in - it must feel like shit.

And some of them have already been feeling like shit to begin with, thanks to the prom last Friday (an event which brought about lots of heartwrenching confessions), so it's like the straw that broke the camel's back (to use that cliche).

I might be overanalysing the situation - god knows that I'm hypersensitive due to largely ridiculous stress situations (ex. Sir MP's Patented Bitch Fits ™ for almost three weeks now), and I need to stop thinking, get off my fat ass, and buy that Brokeback Mountain fake DVD.

Viva Freddy Mercury!
I'm sick and bored. Not a very good combo.

It seems that I am in the minority of people who did not go to the school retreat. The only other person I know who didn't go was o-benjo, who, incidentally, sold me Hellbazer: High Water, featuring the canonically gay John Constantine {"the only person who could calm him down...was his boyfriend."). I will attempt scans, as with Serenity the comic book <s>which I might have promised a while ago T_T</s>.

So I watched movies instead.

Originally, I watched The Brothers Grimm because of Heath Ledger, who, as we all know, will be playing a gay cowboy in the near future (please, let it be R-13). I liked his character Jacob Grimm - sweet and bumbling, but with an indecipherable accent.

A passable movie, and I particulary enjoyed playing "Guess The Fairy Tale Reference!" Favorite scene would have to be near the end, where Will Grimm had just been stabbed, and Jacob was muttering, "True love's kiss will break the spell", and attempted to kiss his brother ;)

All this time, I've been looking for a movie with Hugh Laurie in it, and it turns out there was one at home? *facepalm*

Sense and Sensibility - wow. I am in love with the way it was done. I have no words.

AND! Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Hugh Grant *and* Hugh Laurie? OMG. This is almost like Love Actually (Colin Firth, Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, Liam NeesonHugh Grant, Martin Freeman, plus the Operative from Serenity!) *has a deep infatuation for British actors*

Also: Ang Lee directed both Sense and Sensibility and Brokeback Mountain. So. Amused.

To continue the theme of British actors, I will now endeavor to find BBC's Pride and Prejudice and Wilde. I wonder what are the chances of me actually finding these (legally or otherwise) in the Philippines?

I decided to predict what rating Brokeback Mountain will get if and when it reaches Philippine shores. See, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (which has very interesting capitalization that I'll ignore) recieved an R from the MPAA. In the Philippines, it recieved an R-13 from the MTRCB.

Hopefully, since the homoerotic bits in BM aren't blatant (I hear the actual sex was more implied than shown), it'll recieve the same rating as well. <s>If not, the pirates at DV will profit more and the whole film industry will suffer the consequences! BWAHAHA - *ack*</s>. Take that, MTRCB.

I could go on at length why I like Ang Pagdadalaga Ni Maximo Oliveros ('The <s>Puberty</s> Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros'), why I think everyone should watch it, etc etc, but I won't, because I do not have the words.

Then again, I do have the words:

- Plot not the most original that I've ever encountered. But the way it unfolded, the way that the numerous subplots were handled, was undeniably skillfull. No cheap tricks (ex. dead mother woes) to tug at the audience's heartstrings and no dramatic monologues or weepy scenes set to swelling orchestraic music.

- The family's relationship was well done. The subtle chemistry was there, the way they argued and bickered and yet loved was wonderfully shown. All of my favorite scenes featured their dynamics.

- My favorite scenes are thus: a) the part where Maxi was ignoring his family because they beat up Victor (the policeman), and his Kuya Bogs asked him to braid his hair for him, and Maxi did; b) Bogs - in jail - learning about their father's death and throwing a fit, while Maxi and Kuya Boy were just standing there; c) the look exchanged between Maxi and Victor while Victor stood over Maxi's father's body; d) the ending; and e) Victor was in the bathroom, and Maxi's standing outside it, and he closes his eyes.

- Compared to the other characters, Victor was kinda blah.

- Nathan Lopez as Maxi was so cute. I thought the effeminate bit was kinda over the top at first, but I got used to it after a while. The 'Ms. Universe' sequence wins.

- The music worked. Jangling, a little off-key and off-tune, but it frames the scenes perfectly. And Pepe Smith (he who did the music) has an amusing cameo as a drunken pianist.

- The whole 'digital' aspect was painfully obvious sometimes, especially in the long-range shots. The camera quality shifts noticeably, and sound's a bit muffled in the first few minutes.

- Yes, I was a bit discomfited by the whole Maxi/Victor thing. The way Maxi kept following him around was creepifying. But at the same time still wonderfully (and tastefully) done. Favorite bits involving this: Maxi giving up his more flamboyant ways because Victor said so, the Moulin Rouge-esque whistling scene (you know, that bit with Satine singing to Christian in the end?) and Maxi cleaning him up. Several kinkier members of the audience at the moviehouse catcalled when Maxi was in Victor's room and Victor took off his shirt. I might have resisted the urge to yell, "Pedophile!" several times during the movie ;)

- I really, really want to icon this movie. Screencaps?

In this movie's honor, I offer a download: Stephen Lynch - If I Were Gay.

(Kiss Kiss Bang Bang has been rated R-13! More happiness! And ElJay's new header surprised me the first time.)

Damn you, Identity Crisis! The last time I talked about animanga on this journal was...well, it was a long time ago, I can tell you that. So I was 'bwuh?'-ing a lot because there was so much new stuff I didn't know.

But still, ulop and I managed to enjoy the fair. We got to see some of the AMVs in competition, watch some cosplayers, browse merchandise (is there some kind of con law that states that con enjoyment diminishes at a geometric rate when money is lost at an arithmetic rate?) and meet some of you! It was especially nice to see Red Threads (which I first heard over at F_W *cough*).

Remember that crack-riddled pilot episode I wrote a while back for CSI: Tondo? Because I am such an attention whore, I decided to re-do the thing, properly this time. The old pilot was mostly just bits and pieces of possible plotlines (...what plot?) that I thought up while watching news with my parents.

What I need now is input! I'm trying to match up the following characters/personalities/archetypes with Filipino actors. I've got some ideas, but my knowledge of the Filipino showbiz industry can fit into a thumbnail, so. Help?

1. Yet I don't know who they are.

5. Though I am of the opinion that he is a complete wimp. Jay Manalo could work (because it'll be like Aishite Masu, though with less nekkid and sex ;)

6. Cool Science Geek
(smart AND hot like hell)

Hero Angeles so I can have my very own DennisxHero crack pairing~

7. Man of Unrefined Steel Detective
(and yet he's a softie inside)

This makes me think. Still a blank :P

8.
Hey! Today is Alan Moore's birthday!

I realized that I haven't talked about OPM here for quite some time. But now I am, because there *is* something to talk about.

First off, Buddy Zabala is now The Dawn's new bassist! So the Fabulous Baker Boy now plays bass for three bands (Cambio, Twisted Halo & The Dawn), meaning I will be able to see him a lot more often in gigs! Not that I go to gigs anymore, being all busy and broke, but the potential's still there, you know?

Next, the rumors are true: there *will* be an all-star Eraserheads tribute album coming out soon! One of my classmates just Y!M-ed me the tentative tracklist taken from the Imago ML, and it's something like this:

1. With A Smile - South Border
2. Ligaya - Kitchie Nadal
3. Overdrive - Barbie Almalbis
4. Huwag Mo Na Itanong - MYMP
5. Magasin - Paolo Santos
6. Alkohol - Brownman Revival
7. Superproxy - Francism
8. Alapaap - 6Cyclemind
9. Pare Ko - Spongecola
10. Ang Huling El Bimbo - Rico J. Puno
11. Tikman Ang Langit - Sugarfree
12. Huwag Kang Matakot - Orange and Lemons
13. Para Sa Masa - All Stars

I'm not too crazy about 6Cyclemind doing 'Alapaap', but that's mostly because I have an almost irrevocable bias against that band. Same goes with Paolo Santos and 'Magasin'. I can totally hear Orange and Lemons doing 'Huwag Kang Matakot', and FrancisM and 'Superproxy' seems to fit very well. Also, it's very exciting that Sugarfree is on this album, because they're the one band (besides Cambio) that I really want to cover the Eheads.

(Speaking of Cambio, the random thought of them being in this album is hilarious. Sue me, I have a shallow sense of humor.)

Finally, a Hari ng Sablay movie? Are they shitting me?

And a little brain tickler. Three letters before, three letters after, and in between them are the letters ERGRO. Find the three letters that would form one word without needing to mix said letters up.*

_ _ _ ERGRO _ _ _

* <s>I don't know the answer to this one either.</s> No, wait, I do NOW :DDD

So I really didn't feel *that* excited when I watched Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire. I felt anticipation, but no real, burning buzz for the movie. Before and after.

Observations:
- GAY. Really. Even my not-slash-friendly friends picked up on it. Harry/Ron, Harry/Cedric, Moody/Harry, Krum/Ron, Crouch Jr/Snape, Karkaroff/Snape, Dumbledore/Everyone, etc etc. GAY GAY GAY.

- The enjoyment of this movie will be significantly lessened if one has never read the book before. Lots of abrupt scene changes that had a non-HP-fan friend going, "Huh?" a lot. I think I got a bit motion-sick too.

- Moaning Myrtle was...disturbing. Ew.

- Dumbledore's milkshake brings all the boys to the yard (damn right, it's better than yours!)

- The whole 'Voldemort rises again!' scene was disappointingly anti-climatic. Harry and Cedric's running-through-the-maze bit was more adrenaline-pumping.

- WTF is up with Viktor Krum's Very Gay Companion™? And Ron had one too!

- Neville is such a woobie ♥ Fred and George also deserved major props.

- What just happened to Hermoine's character? And for that matter, Ron! I never liked you in the books, but why did they make you out to be only comic relief?

- The Yule Ball was also startlingly anti-climatic. And the Triwizard Cup. And the World Cup. And Rita Skeeter. And the Wizengamot. And the interrogation in the end. And the funeral.

- The First Task was made out into some cheap adrenaline-pushing event. Blah blah blah ZOMG HARRY KILLED THE DRAGON!!1one Isn't that negative points?

- Some of the scenes in the movie were dim. Even the outdoors scenes made me wish for a nice Brightness/Contrast adjustment because they were so dark.

- The whole Harry/Cho was bleh. There was more Harry/Hermoine than Harry/Cho. Heck, there was more Dragon/Hogwarts Castle than Harry/Cho.

- Doesn't the guy at the center of this picture look an awful lot like Cedric Diggory? <s>Seriously. Squint.</s>

- Did I mention GAY? Suggestive closets, wand-licking, finger-licking, Necrophiliac!Harry, vinesex, magical spooge, manboobs, blah blah blah GAY.

Verdict: where's the rush? I didn't feel the thrill of this movie. And GAY. (<-- CAPSLOCK OF TRUTH YO)

Read this absolutely spoiler-free review (I guarantee it) of Serenity and tell me you aren't even the slightest bit curious about the movie.

Because Serenity is a sci-fi movie with heart, goddamnit, actual human heart that delves right deep into human characterization and relationships and interactions. It's not about the kiss kiss bang bang, or the woobie CG aliens or the Thousand And One Things One Can Do With A Spaceship - it's about people.

Don't get me wrong, Star Wars (the original trilogy haha I almost said orgy trilogy) still remains a favorite of mine, but when it comes to characters, George Lucas could use a few lessons from Joss Whedon. Because Joss is all about the people, and that what gets me in the end.

Also, it totally pwnz when I found out that majority of the actors' favorite scene was the one with Simon and River (which almost broke my heart too).

You can already buy the novelisation at National Bookstore (I know I have), and it manages to do a good job of connecting the TV series and the movie.

And as I've realised that I haven't been talking about anything other than this Big Damn Movie, here's a random observation that I wish to post: Why is it that when National Bookstore has got all the shiny books now (A Wodehouse Omnibus! Catch-22! Lots and lots of DC trade paperbacks!) I never seem to have the money to buy them? *woes*

Plus, Sam - the latest housemate to be booted off Pinoy Big Brother - likes Fight Club and Edward Norton, which made me fangirl him a little. A little. Oh me of fickle faith.

Look at that chiseled jaw.

This post was lovingly brough to you by Descartes' Firefly-obsessed brain. <s>Any chance someone can hook me up with an mp3 of The Ballad of Jayne?</s>

Late-breaking news: Quezon City Science High School is bankrupt. How a public, government-supported high school can be bankrupt, I have no idea, but it is. The school's in debt with a bunch of people (GPTA, alumni, et al). There's talk of public utilities like water and electricity getting cut-off. Periodic exams may be suspended because there is no paper to photocopy the tests on.

On one hand, no exams w00t!

On the other hand, *facepalm* (This is WHY QCSHS should be handed over to Quezon City instead of NCR - the city government takes care of its own)

A Serenity-pimping post will be up soon too.

If QCSHS taught Math like that, I would be on a high (in a good way) with each lesson :)))))

ETA 2! QCSHS' sembreak will end on Nov7! Woot!
